Status of Seizures of Goods Infringing Intellectual Property Rights at Japanese Customs (First Half of 2025)

Japanese Customs (Status of Seizures of Goods Infringing Intellectual Property Rights at Customs in the First Half of 2025) has been announced.
・The number of import seizures in the first half exceeded 15,000 for the third consecutive year.
・The number of import seizures was 17,249, a 5.6% decrease compared to the same period last year. However, it has exceeded 15,000 for three consecutive years and remains at a high level.

By the countries subject to the number of import prohibition orders:
(1) China: 14,548 cases (84.3%)
(2) Vietnam: 1,557 cases (9.0%)
(3) Hong Kong: 244 cases (1.4%)
(4) South Korea: 209 cases (1.2%)

By intellectual property right:
(1) Patent rights: 66 cases (0.6%)
(2) Utility model rights: 0 cases (0.0%)
(3) Design rights: 267 cases (1.5%)
(4) Trademark rights: 16,339 cases (93.7%)
(5) Copyright: 731 cases (4.2%)

The number of import suspensions stood at 416,531 items, representing a 43.5% decrease compared to the same period last year, yet exceeding 400,000 items for the fifth consecutive year.
