Discussions were held at the Japan Patent Office (JPO) regarding the ideal state of design protection in virtual spaces (such as the Metaverse).

The Secretariat reported the results of a survey conducted among stakeholders regarding the "scope of the effects of design rights:

1. Production Stage:** Many expressed cautious opinions to avoid stifling creative activities.
2. Distribution Stage:** There were many calls for regulations on the provision of 3D models and the transfer of data.
3. Usage Stage:** While there were demands for measures against those who place infringing items, a cautious stance was maintained regarding the regulation of general users.

Key points of discussion among the committee members included the balance between the effectiveness of rights enforcement and the burden on creators, the scope of protection for avatars and similar assets, and the impact on the next generation of creators.

[Future Schedule]
The JPO will continue to examine the proposed system by organizing the actual conditions and determination criteria for production, distribution, and use. The next meeting is scheduled to be held around the beginning of 2026.
